We often use First/Next/Then boards in school to help children know what's coming next and to remain "in the green".

When we're in school we tend to follow a cycle of:

First: a calming and focusing/regulating activity, Next: a learning activity, Then: a relaxing activity/down time.

You might find it works best if children can help plan the order that things are happening in.

Chatter mats can be a great way to help families feel connected if children struggle with the social aspects of meal times.

A really great child friendly story book resource to help children understand what's going on and hopefully put their minds at rest.

Reading/Therapy Dogs

Peter Gladwin school was featured in the June issue of Sussex Life magazine. The article, which is featured in full below, was about our love of reading at PGS and about our very special Reading/Therapy dogs, who visit us weekly to support many of our children’s enjoyment of reading. Charlotte Barnes, Taboo’s owner and handler, has been coming to Peter Gladwin for a number of years and has helped many of our children learn to read with confidence

Leon and Archie were great ambassadors for our school. They were both interviewed by Jenny Mark-Bell, the magazine’s editor. Both boys explained how they enjoyed reading to Taboo and how reading to him takes away many of the stresses of reading to an adult. (Leon pointed out Taboo just listens and doesn’t interrupt.) They both told Jenny about how their reading had improved and about their favourite books.
